I joined Westminster in 1985 after working as a manager in international shipping and aviation. At Westminster I have been a course leader, head of a department and director of the Graduate Centre for the Built Environment. Currently my main focus is on directing research and consultancy projects concerned with freight transport and logistics. I am a specialist in urban logistics, logistics and energy issues and international developments in logistics.
I am the Assistant Editor of the journal Transport Reviews, and I am on the editorial boards of: The Journal of International Logistics: Research and Applications, and Supply Chain Forum.
External Activities
- Chair of the Central London Freight Quality Partnership (CLFQP). CLFQP brings together six central London boroughs, Transport for London and a range of major private sector organisations with the aim of improving freight operations in central London taking account of business and environmental factors.
- Appointed as adviser to the CfIT Working Group investigating Light Commercial Vehicles (vans). June 2009.
- Adviser on HGV strategy for the City of Copenhagen (March, 2009).
- Member of the Scientific Evaluation panel appointed by the Belgian Government, the Belgian Federal Science Policy Office (BELSPO) to provide advice on the research Programme "Science for a Sustainable Development" September 2008 and June 2006.
- Member of the Stakeholder group for the EU research project Freightvision considering freight transport developments and policy implications for the future (horizons 2035 and 2050).
- Led Transport for London and local authority delegation on visit to Paris (April 2008) to discuss innovative approaches to urban freight transport and the scope for cooperation between city authorities in Paris and London).
- Chair of the Logistics Research Network and the Research Coordination Committee of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
- Member of the Scientific Committee of the World Conference for Transport Research Society (WCTRS).
